Fibreboard and Owens Corning Trust History
Fibreboard had substantial asbestos liabilities before Owens Corning’s Chapter 11 reorganization. SEC records describe a pre-bankruptcy Fibreboard Settlement Trust funded by insurance proceeds and a Negotiated Settlement Program addressing large numbers of Fibreboard asbestos claims.
The bankruptcy court confirmed Owens Corning’s Sixth Amended Joint Plan of Reorganization on September 26, 2006, and the plan became effective October 31, 2006. Under the confirmed plan, asbestos personal-injury claims against Owens Corning and Fibreboard are administered through the Section 524(g) trust using separate sub-accounts. The current trust began accepting claims on August 27, 2007.
Because the sub-accounts have different disease values and payment percentages, a Fibreboard claim should be evaluated under Fibreboard-specific values rather than Owens Corning values.
Fibreboard Trust Funding History
SEC filings confirm that approximately $1.5 billion in assets of the Fibreboard Settlement Trust were contributed to the Section 524(g) trust when the reorganization was implemented. Owens Corning separately contributed $1.25 billion in cash on the effective date and later approximately $1.408 billion in cash plus 28.2 million shares of common stock to the combined trust.
These figures describe historical funding of the combined Owens Corning/Fibreboard trust. They are not Fibreboard’s current sub-account balance and should not be presented as money currently available to an individual claimant.
Fibreboard Disease Values
The official trust’s current Individual Review settlement table publishes the following Fibreboard values. Scheduled values are used for qualifying Expedited Review claims; Individual Review can result in a different gross settlement value subject to applicable rules.

Exposure and Medical Requirements
The trust requires claimants to choose between Expedited Review and Individual Review and to satisfy the applicable Trust Distribution Procedures. A valid claim requires credible medical evidence supporting the disease level and credible evidence of qualifying Fibreboard exposure.
The trust maintains a Fibreboard Approved Site List, updated in May 2026, as one resource for exposure evaluation. Potential supporting evidence can include employment records, Social Security records, worksite history, occupation, product identification and witness evidence.
Medical evidence and exposure evidence are separate. A diagnosis does not by itself prove qualifying Fibreboard exposure, and historical exposure evidence does not by itself establish the medical criteria for an allowed claim.

Fibreboard exposure may have occurred alongside products associated with Owens Corning or other asbestos companies.
